Mapanda Community Development

A whole-community development programme serving around 5,000 people across four villages in the Zomba area — energy, clean water, education, health, farming and land management planned as one system.

Mapanda Community Development — Zomba, Malawi

The Mapanda Community Development initiative covers four villages in the Zomba area of Malawi — Mapanda (around 300 homes), Mbamba (250), Chimimba (150) and Mkwapatira (100) — roughly 5,000 people in total. Commissioned by Kamkom Technologies, the programme is designed and implemented by Ronella Group.

Three pillars

Community social services. Sustainable energy and clean water supplies, alongside a two-room school and a health clinic — the essential infrastructure a growing community needs.

Economic empowerment. Irrigated farming, livestock operations spanning fish, dairy cattle, poultry and pigs, and cold storage so that food produced locally keeps its value locally.

Environmental sustainability. Land management, organic fertilisation, forestry and water management, so the programme strengthens rather than depletes the landscape it depends on.

Status

Mapanda is currently in its planning and design phases, with launch scheduled for 2026. It is the fullest expression so far of Ronella's approach: proven technologies, selected and integrated around what one specific community actually needs.
